The Coachman Hotel
The property
Welcome to the re envisioned and newly renovated Coachman Hotel, a new motel experience that embraces modern style and convenience while celebrating escapes to nature. Within a few blocks of Lake Tahoe and Heavenly Mountain Resort, the Hotel is both a retreat and gateway to the great outdoors.
Guests can cool off in the pool in the summer, relax in the hot-tub in the winter, have a great cup of coffee in the morning, and gather for beers and shared stories around the fire pit after a day out in the wild.
The heart of our Hotel. The central ‘bar’ serves as both the reception desk and traditional bar serving coffee, beer, and wine. We think of it as a modern take on the days of a single motel proprietor or traditional hostel. The lobby also connects to the breakfast area and features several different seating areas to relax and put your feet up. Sliding glass paned doors look out on the pool, hot tub, and fire pits. Great coffee and drinks combined with ample comfortable seating, reading material, and games make our public space the perfect place to start and end your day.
Where to find it
The neighborhood
Lake Tahoe is the largest Alpine Lake in America and is located where California and Nevada meet. Skiers and snowboarders visit each winter for the more than dozen mountains including Heavenly Ski Resort [the largest in California] and Squaw Valley [site of the 1960 Winter Olympics]. Lake Tahoe is also home to miles of beaches and some of the best summer recreation in the country including watersports, hiking, mountain biking, backpacking, fishing, hot air balloon rides, and rock climbing. The Nevada side also includes several large casinos for gaming, nightlife, and events.
Some of our can’t miss things to do include biking the Flume Trail and new Bijou Bike Park, kayaking or boating through Emerald Bay, hiking Mount Tallac, experiencing the American Century Celebrity Golf Tournament, attending an outdoor concert at Harvey’s, and of course skiing or snowboarding at Heavenly…just to name a few

The story
Originally built in the 1960’s as two separate motels, The Green Lantern and The Royal Coachman, our property was built as part of the tourism boom from the 1960 Winter Olympics at Squaw Valley. In the 1980’s the properties were combined and known as The Green Lantern, until now.
Our new name is a nod to the old Royal Coachman and history of South Lake Tahoe. In 2000, the Heavenly Gondola and Village opened just a few blocks from our hotel and revitalized the area. The transformation continues in South Lake Tahoe overall with ongoing enhancements to outdoor recreation activities, new businesses, and revitalization of old properties.
